Do We Really Need Another Skateboard Company: Introducing PILLLAR Skateboards

Starting a new business from scratch, by definition, is a losing effort. Over half of all businesses fail within the first year and well over 66% by year 5 (odds are better to strike it rich in Vegas than to launch a successful company). I'm fairly certain that starting a skate company in 2020 is an even riskier venture and statistically is probably one of the worst decisions I've ever made. But yet, here we are.

So why PILLLAR?

You see, when I get an I idea, I have to act on it. If for no other reason than so I can just stop thinking about it. However, when it comes to PILLLAR, I'm bringing together two of my biggest passions; skateboarding and the environment. So odds be damned, I'm starting a skate company.

PILLLAR was founded on the idea that we, as skaters, are more than a kickflip and a pair of baggy jeans. And the fact is, we actually do care more about the environment and the impact we have on it with our sport than we're given credit for.

In order to reduce and slow the effects that consumerism and skateboarding has had on human-made climate change, companies from all industries will need to step up and do their part when it comes to sustainability, the environment and how they do business over the years to come.

But recognizing the damage that’s already been done and reducing the damage to come in the future, is not a one-way street. It’s going to take all of us; government, businesses and individuals to make real changes in the way we live and how we interact with the world.

And that’s where you come in.

We understand that at its core, skateboarding is about personal expression and individual freedom, and at times, to go against the grain of social norms. However, when it comes to the environment and climate change, it’s going to be individuals making changes from the ground up and the decisions you make that will influence businesses and governments alike to change as well.

PILLLAR is committed to being 100% transparent with the impact we have on the environment and the decisions we make as a business. Whether it be the materials we use in manufacturing our skateboards and apparel, our emissions from shipping and travel, or our office activities that produce waste such as packaging and electricity usage, our Carbon Footprint page will track the carbon emissions for everything we do.

Our goal is to be the world’s first Climate Positive skateboard company. That means we’ll be removing more carbon from the atmosphere than we’re putting into it.

We know there are many choices when it comes to purchasing a skateboard and there are some amazing companies doing amazing things for skateboarding. However, when you chose PILLLAR, we want you to be confident that your choice is making a positive impact on the environment and that together we’re making a push to slow climate change and provide a sustainable future for everyone.
